Reading Robyn

I am a lover of libraries, a reader of everything, a girl easily swayed by pretty pictures, and overall just your average, nerdy fairy princess.

2013 is the year I'm finally keeping up a regular reading blog Reading Robyn! There I post extended versions of my GR reviews so be sure to check that out!

I always seem to be on the move having lived in seven cities and counting in my nineteen years. I'm not on the run from the law as many have assumed (at least I don't think so), but moving around has given me an appreciation for how places make stories and people make memories. While change is inevitable, books are the friends that I take with me from place to place. They comforted me when I was sick, they push me to continue to learn and grow into myself, and most importantly they opened me up to the possibilities of living in thousands of places all at once.

I primarily read YA fiction, as well as a lot of graphic novels and manga. However, I tend to be this combination of odd reads, so expect the unexpected!

Cheesy Life Quote: "In this world through which I travel, I am endlessly creating myself." - Frantz Fanon

Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You, Vol. 1 - Karuho Shiina The first glance of young love, the blush that sets a heart on fire, the sweet beginnings of something you can only hope will lead to more.I've been looking forward to finally reading this first volume for months now (I'll only say this once, library system you have failed me!) and I'm happy to report that I like it! Sawako, our female lead, is such a lovable character that she makes you invest in her from the moment she appears on page. And Kazehaya, our boy, is just adorable. I like that I'm dealing with a popular guy who isn't a jerk or has some kind of spin to his character. He's just a school boy that blushes a lot, it's that simple. Shiina has a way of making these just starting relationships between her characters feel unforced. The friendships that are being built are natural, and I love the direction the romance is taking, nice and slow. While I was reading I couldn't help but notice that despite its classic story-line, Kimi ni Todoke stands out as pretty original. It's refreshing to read a manga where the romance is gradually developing on both sides of the equation equally. And Kazehaya isn't a bickering bad boy, he's a rather honest character and I feel like I can actually connect with him instead of just swooning. My only complaint is that I'm not quite hooked in yet, the little moments are cute but it all feels rather basic. That aside I still really enjoyed this first volume and am eagerly awaiting the next.
